Homes for Sale in the Central District
The Central Area of Seattle contains the city’s oldest housing, which started in the late 1800’s. Types of housing include the classic salt box, victorian style, cottages and bungalows. The cultural and demographics of the Central District have changed many times throughout the years. From 1880’s until World War 1, the area was predominately Jewish neighborhood. A few decades later the Central District became home to the Japanese-Americans in Seattle, and by the 1970’s the Central District became largely an African-American neighborhood and the center of the civil rights movement in Seattle. The mix of colors and culture that have flowed in and out of the Central District have left a rich and distinct imprint, unlike any other neighborhood in Seattle.
